Calcite – Your new Bestie

Calcite is one of my favorite crystals. Why do you ask? They have amazingly supportive energy, thanks to all that fantastic water element it houses! People of all ages can also use it. And when it comes to chakras, it works in deep alignment with the energy and chakra system so that you can use it for just about anything! Last but not least, it pairs amazingly well with pretty much any other crystal, offering support for any process you are going through.

What exactly is a Calcite?

Calcite is a prevalent mineral found in rocks of all types (igneous, sedimentary, and Metamorphic). It is the main mineral found in Marble as well as Limestone. These two rocks are widespread and comprise much of the Earth’s crust. The properties of calcite make it one of the most widely used minerals. It is used as a construction material, abrasive, agricultural soil treatment, construction aggregate, pigment, pharmaceutical, and more. Thus, it has more uses than almost any other mineral.

Calcites are used in construction quite a bit, and it is the primary consumer of calcites in the world. But let’s not forget antacids (Tum’s anyone?), which take advantage of calcite’s acid-neutralizing properties. In addition, when ground down, calcites were often used as the paint base for white paint. Also, due to its low hardness, it is often used in the cleaning industry as a soft abrasive cleaner, as it won’t damage many of the materials used for construction in the home.

Calcite also helps with global warming – as the formation of Limestone removes carbon from the atmosphere and stores it away for a long time. This process has been occurring for millions of years – producing enormous volumes of stored carbon dioxide. In addition, when these rocks are weathered, used to neutralize acids, heated to make cement, or metamorphosed severely, some carbon dioxides are released and returned to the atmosphere. All of these processes of limestone formation and destruction have an impact on Earth’s climate.

But how are calcite CRYSTALS formed?

Calcite crystals are most often formed by direct precipitation from calcium-rich waters. As concentrations increase or the amount of water decreases, solid calcite crystals form. In addition, sea waters can be rich in calcite from shells and fossils. Calcite has had a significant role in species development on our planet. The chemical composition of seawater would benefit some species more than others which may have caused some to go extinct and others to thrive.

If you want a fun read, check out the Calcite and Aragonite seas story! Calcite also has the habit of forming over other minerals – so it is not uncommon to see a piece of calcite with another mineral trapped within it (such as pyrite, mica, etc.). However, this is not the only way that calcites form. They can form within the matrix of other minerals, sometimes so small that you cannot see them with the naked eye!

Calcite in Metaphysics

As you can see, calcite is very much tied not only to water but also to the very life of our planet. All these properties affect the energy it contains, affecting what you can extract from this crystal to improve your life! All calcites have a similar energy, and the color of each calcite will dictate which wavelengths of that energy you can extract. For example, red calcite will pull all the supportive, healing, and life energy associated with the red vibrational spectrum. This means working in the root chakra for material things. If you have green calcite, you will extract the green vibrational spectrum – the one connected more with the emotional self than the physical one. So, let’s dive right in!

Clear Calcite

Iceland Spar, also known as Clear Calcite or Optical Calcite, is a variety of calcite found initially in Iceland. These beautiful transparent specimens strongly connect with the crown chakra and can aid in all spiritual relationships. They are particularly effective when working with the higher self during periods of shadow work. It helps to support you through the process and aids in integrating emotions and information learned.

This Calcite variety is usually completely transparent and has endless amounts of rainbow inclusions within, which has led many folks to use it as an energy-balancing tool to align all of the chakras simultaneously.   In magick, Iceland Spar has been used for centuries to provide clarity and insight into difficult situations – especially when dealing with spiritual matters. You can also use it to look into the “purity” of things. This can aid not just in magick but also in personal work.

White Aragonite

This is a crystal that has a powerful connection to the upper chakras. It can be used as a gateway to the upper realms and connect with your higher self in all types of work. Also, it can aid those just starting to open their third eye in easing the process and ensuring they are working for their highest good. It is also a stone of profound spiritual healing and purification. It can aid in recovery, love, compassion, and forgiveness. This crystal is also widely used for Angelic Connection and can be a powerful ally in receiving messages from the higher angelic realms.

It can also help in spiritual purification and be used effectively when you feel spiritually blocked or bogged down by negativity. It helps re-align your auric system with your divine intent and remove all that no longer serves you. Most of the high-grade white Aragonite right now is coming out of Mexico.

Lavender Calcite

Lavender calcite is a scarce version of calcite. The Manganese present causes the lavender color in the crystal. This crystal can be found in Joplin, MI, or the Ohio Tri-state area. Beware that some of these pieces coming out of China may be fakes. Sometimes they are artificially colored or maybe even a different mineral masquerading as calcite.

Lavender calcite connects with the third eye chakra and is one of the best crystals for empaths. It helps to support you as you sort through emotions and feelings, and it brings an abundance of nurturing divine feminine energy. You can also use it for dream work, especially for those with nightmares or night terrors.

Caribbean Calcite

Caribbean Blue Calcite is a new combination mineral recently found in 2019 in Pakistan. It combines a very light ocean Blue Calcite and golden brown and white Aragonite. The name Caribbean calcite comes from the fact that this crystal looks much like the Caribbean Ocean. One of the things that Caribbean calcite is fantastic at is bringing an overall sense of calm and serenity to the physical body. This allows one to “slip” out of their physical body more easily and ascend to higher vibrations (astral travel). You can also keep a piece of it on your bedside for an enhanced perspective of your dreams and an additional power source to aid in lucid dreaming and astral travel.

It can also ease someone undergoing a spiritual awakening, transformation, or emotional shift. It helps support the mental, spiritual, and emotional bodies simultaneously. Perfect for empaths, It can aid in accessing your intuition and controlling your gift. It also has impressive stress-relieving qualities like most calcites.

Blue Calcite

Blue calcite is one of the best crystals for meditation and spiritual communication. It works deep within the throat chakra to help you to become more confident in speaking your truth. It helps bring peace and calm to any situation and can be a helpful aid when communicating with your spirit guides.

Blue calcite has soothing energy and can help you identify when things need to be spoken and when they do not. It helps to prevent impulsive behavior and improve listening skills. I always recommend blue calcite for any meditation room, as it aids in all communications with spirit and the higher self and supports us for inner work. This stone is known to calm emotions and offers mental and etheric protection. Blue Calcite significantly protects one’s aura and offers powerful transmutational energies. Also, an excellent addition to your crystal line-up if you suffer from anxiety or depression. Pair it with amethyst, pink calcite, rose quartz, clear quartz, and green calcite for a genuinely uplifting and supportive combination.

Green Calcite

Green calcite is a hero when working with the heart chakra. It offers fantastic support to those attempting to recover from a broken heart and can also aid in bringing new love into your life. It helps in re-opening yourself to love and learning to love yourself. It is sometimes referred to as the universal love crystal and has certainly earned that title! Working with this stone helps strengthen the connection to our hearts and provides insight into where we need to focus our emotions.

Green calcite is a must-have crystal for your meditation collection, especially if you are doing inner work. It’s essential to focus on your heart during these sessions to bring all the trauma weighing it down to the surface. We must face it, accept it, and move forward from it. Green Calcite will become your best friend when dealing with such issues and help you push past them.

Some of the best green calcite comes from Mexico and Brazil. The darker green crystals are also perfect for grounding negative emotions and releasing toxic thoughts. It also works very well for children dealing with social issues in school – place a piece of green calcite on their nightstand to help them cope with difficult situations and social anxiety.

Pink Calcite or Mangano Calcite

Pink calcite and Mangano calcite are the rock stars when working with grief and recovering from heartbreak. However, there is a subtle difference between the two, but you can use them energetically in the same way. Mangano Calcite is pink calcite with at least a 30% content of Manganese. This is very difficult to tell when looking with the naked eye, and generally, you need to ensure you receive it from a reliable source (like us!).

Pink calcite works in the heart chakra and acts as a balm for those dealing with a broken heart, loss, grief, and recovering from severe trauma and abuse. It pairs beautifully with green calcite – as the green calcite opens the heart chakra, the pink calcite paves the way for releasing negativity and providing all the support needed for healing. Pink Calcite can be found in almost any country, with the highest quality crystals coming from Mexico.

Honey Calcite

Honey calcite is one of our favorite crystals, and I guarantee that once you try it, it will also be one of yours! This mineral resonates with the Root, Solar, and Third-Eye chakras creating a powerful trifecta of personal will and creation. The solar plexus chakra boosts confidence, creativity, and self-acceptance. For artists of all types, this crystal can aid in getting past blockages and lack of creativity. Keep it on your workspace as you create and feel the energy connect and flow with your creativity!

This crystal can also bring great joy, help you find yourself and your truth, and teach you to stand in your power. Its connection with mother earth also helps manifest thoughts, ideas, and plans and ground excess energies. It is truly an artist’s crystal to keep them balanced and open to inspiration! The highest quality honey calcite comes from Mexico – the most significant deposit on our planet.

Orange Calcite

Orange Calcite is the perfect stone to use when trying to unlock and unleash our creative or sexual energies. It’s one of the very few crystals that can move these energies throughout the body, assisting in removing specific blockages when needed. When our creative and sexual energies flow freely, we become more comfortable with ourselves and our current actions. This usually leads to an increase in confidence and self-esteem. If you meditate with this stone to embrace your sexuality, we suggest placing it around your groin area.

Orange calcite doesn’t get all of the credit it deserves. This often-overlooked powerhouse works both in the sacral and solar plexus chakras. It encourages forming positive and healthy relationships and improving sex drive. It is excellent for women trying to become pregnant and can aid in any recovery from female-related problems. For men, it can help with ED and also with prostate problems. Like Honey Calcite, it is a stone of creativity and the arts. It can improve existing relationships by allowing each person to remain true to themselves so that a healthy bond can form.

Red Calcite

Red calcite and blood calcite (a very dark red calcite that looks like blood, hence the name) work in the root chakra. This is a crystal that promotes stability and health. It can be helpful when recovering from a severe illness or as a source of support when undergoing long-term treatments that can be difficult on the body. This can also be an excellent crystal to have with you when attempting to make healthy lifestyle changes, such as eating better, exercising, getting enough sleep, etc. Another area where this little gem shines is for those recovering from abuse, PTSD, or traumatic situations. It aids in helping you to trust yourself and your environment again, feel safe, and know that your personal needs are important and should be met.

Red calcite is considered to be an energizing and detoxifying stone as well. It helps to bring stability in life and also helps to boost inner strength. It also helps mitigate fears and cultivate courage. For those who suffer from anxiety, it can be of great aid to calm the rushes and adrenaline that can bring on an anxiety episode. It can be a powerful aid to those for whom life poses a daily challenge. It can help ease you into a better and more balanced outlook. This is especially important when recovering from trauma.

Aragonite

Aragonite is calcite but in a different crystal structure. The critical difference between calcite and Aragonite is that the crystal system of calcite is trigonal, whereas the crystal system of Aragonite is orthorhombic. Calcite is the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate. Energetically they will have similar properties, with the slight difference that Aragonite is more about external change and manifestation than calcite. Its strong connection with elemental Earth is an excellent crystal for communicating with nature, grounding, manifestation, and finding new opportunities.

This crystal’s potent energies help activate and align the entire chakra column to promote inner balance, mental clarity, and transformation. No matter the color, it can be a solid helper to strengthen the aura and prepare you for making changes and tackling daily life. This energy push will promote confidence, self-healing, and personal betterment.

Limestone

Limestone is a common type of sedimentary carbonate rock. It is composed mainly of calcite and Aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate. Like many sedimentary rocks, Limestone is about knowing yourself and understanding the layers within you. This protective crystal can offer support in times of stress and great need. Limestone is also about permanency, it manifests changes in the long term, but when they manifest, they are solid and never fleeting. Finally, as a healing crystal, it aids in boosting health and constitution, removing disease, and purifying the body.

Limestone is an assisting stone to enhance healing properties, encourage purification, remind us of our innocence, ground and center us, and entice positive thoughts. Many limestones exhibit different colors, especially on weathered surfaces, due to their grounding make-up of clay, sand, organic remains, iron oxide, and other materials. Therefore, the Limestone’s color can help with the colors of the Auric field and Chakra centers. Red and tan stones for the Base or Root Chakra, orange for the Sacral/Spleen Chakra, and so on. Limestone is the root of many crystals, including agate, calcite, dolomite, lapis, and Septarian, to name a few. Therefore, it takes on the metaphysical properties of its additional minerals. This is why Limestone is such a multi-dimensional stone.

Septarian

Septarian Nodule also referred to as Dragon Stone, is a tri-color concretion composed of Aragonite (the brown), Calcite (the yellow), and Limestone (the grey). The name comes from “Septaria,” which refers to any concretion with internal cavities or cracks. This unique mineral was formed around 50 to 70 million years ago during Earth’s Cretaceous Period. Sealife during that time became attracted to the molten sediment produced by these massive volcanic eruptions.

Over time as sea life began to die, their chemical composition became enriched in sedimentary rock, forming the nodules we see today. As oceans receded worldwide, the water within soon dried out, and massive cracks developed internally. The chemicals within the dead sea life eventually crystallized and formed Aragonite “crusts” and drusy Calcite crystals. Most Septarian Nodules in the US are from Utah, where the Gulf Of Mexico once spanned. Many are also in Madagascar, under very similar conditions during that time.

Septarian works in the lower chakras for a deep connection with mother earth and the history of our planet. You can use it for all types of physical and animal healing. It is an excellent crystal to connect with ancestors and for past life work. Septarian is a perfect crystal to keep in your bedroom at night to relax after a stressful day due to its gentle energy. Also excellent for family rooms to help balance energies, prevent confrontations, and bring in that “homey” feeling. Septarian eggs, in particular, are perfect for manifestation work!
