Brewing the Perfect cup of tea!

Tea – An amazing discovery!

They say that the discovery of Tea came from as far back as 2700 BC in China.  Accidentally a tea leaf fell into the Emperor’s cup and voila! Tea was born!  The height of Tea’s popularity was in the 1800’s, and it spread throughout the world!

Black TeaBlack Tea

Black tea is born of a special fermentation of the tea leaf.  The tea made from these leaves was more potent, and the leaves could be stored for longer periods of time without losing their potency.  The fermentation in black tea brewing is really a process that oxidizes the tea leaves: it also increases the amount of caffeine by weight, making black tea a unique energy source! This is the most popular type of tea in the West.  Either served with a squeeze of lemon or added milk and a cube of sugar, the cup of black tea is part of daily tea ceremonies that take place worldwide.  When served plain, it contains no calories, carbohydrates, or fats. A cup of black tea contains more caffeine than any other types of tea but less than in any cup of coffee. We carry a wide variety of Black Teas!

Green TeaGreen Tea

The birth of Green Tea dates back to the 8th century, when a method steaming the leaves to inhibit their oxidation was discovered.  In the 12th century a new frying method of “fixing” the leaves was introduced.  Both of these processes resulted in teas that have the characteristic un-oxidized taste and appearance to modern green teas, and both processes are still in use today.   Green teas will vary in flavor and boldness, depending on the area of cultivation, fixing method and processing.  It has been proven that drinking green tea can lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, increase metabolic rates and be helpful in variety of other conditions and illnesses.  The green tea is lightly oxidized, dried, but not fermented. It is usually served plain, without sugar or milk. Since some of the green tea variants taste a bit bitter, it should be brewed in lower temperature than the boiling point.  With so many varieties of Green Tea you can always find a favorite!  The good news? No matter which one you choose, they are all good for you!  We carry many different delectable varieties of Green Tea – Stop it and check them out!

whitetea1White Tea

White tea became revered during China’s Song Dynasty since it was the emperor’s favorite.  Back Then White tea leaves and buds were ground into a silvery powder, which was then whisked in bowls during the Song Tea Ceremony. This was the inspiration for the famous Japanese Tea Ceremony.   White tea is rarer and more expensive than the other types of teas mentioned above. Originated in the Fujian province of china, the white tea is made of young Tea leaves. which go through a long process of steaming or frying, inactivate fermenting and drying. Since the leaves are harvested while the buds are still covered by white hair, it is called white tea. White tea has the most delicate, sweet taste than the other types of tea. Moreover, it contains the smallest amount of caffeine and the largest amount of antioxidant that help prevent cancer. We carry some of the finest White teas around, including the Amazing Silver Needle White tea!

RooibossRooibos Teas

Rooibos tea is still relatively unknown to many tea drinkers worldwide. Part of the reason rooibos is still rare is that the plant from which it is harvested is grown only in a specific region in South Africa.  Unlike all other teas, it comes from a totally different tea plant.   The health benefits of red rooibos tea are abundant. This form of tea has traditionally been popular due to its great taste and unique color, while also boosting the health of the body. Rooibos tea or red tea is a medicinal, herbal beverage that is acquired from the Aspalathus linearis bush plant that is found in South Africa. According to the South African Rooibos Council, rooibos is not a true tea, but an herb. The fermented tea is red in color. Its medicinal attributes have been confirmed by The US Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, which has affirmed that red rooibos tea is capable of reducing cancer, heart disease, premature aging and other serious conditions.  We carry a wide variety of both Red and Green Rooibos Teas!
